The world of online poker is no stranger to scams. The latest scandal comes from a propbet challenge that has been issued by Alvaro Romero known as "spin4play" on PokerStars. On February 2016, Alvaro announced that he would play 20 000 spins on 100s in 2 months (61 days) with at least 2.5% ROI, which is not an easy feat.
On May 2016, Alvaro successfully completed the challenge by playing 20k games with 3.18% EV ROI. Overall, he won 100 000$ from bets and 45 000$ from rakeback!
Due to his success, Alvaro took this opportunity to form a partnership with Poker Strategy who helped him promote his stable, Spin Legends.
Fast foward to this year, new rumors surfaced from people who are close to him that the whole challenge was a hoax. A poster on 2+2 named "surebet" eventually made a post confirming suspicions about "spin4play" and giving away valuable information.
On the 8th of May 2018, it was confirmed by PokerStars, who had launched an investigation, that there had been indeed some foul play which resulted in having him PERMANENTLY BANNED and having his funds forfeited. It turns out that "spin4play" was using a special software that allowed him to only play against weak opponents by accessing PokerStars's database which is a breach of service.
Alvaro cheated people for more than 100 000$!
Due to this unfortunate turn of events, I'm sure that some honest players from Spin Legends are being affected by this. SpinBeasts, of course, welcomes everyone who decides to leave Spin Legends.
